The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued multiple severe weather warnings for Monday, cautioning against disruptive rainfall, localised flooding, severe thunderstorms, and extreme fire danger conditions across several provinces.
A Yellow Level 5 warning has been announced for Limpopo and Mpumalanga, excluding the extreme south-western parts.
Heavy rainfall in these regions may result in significant flooding, property damage, and road closures.
Residents are urged to prepare for potential disruptions and avoid areas prone to flooding.
In addition, a Yellow Level 2 warning has been issued for localised flooding in the northern parts of Gauteng, south-western Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and the Wild Coast in the Eastern Cape.
These areas are expected to experience heavy rainfall, which may lead to water pooling on roads and possible damage to infrastructure.
Severe thunderstorms are also predicted for the south-western North West and west-central Free State, with a Yellow Level 2 alert in place. These storms could bring heavy downpours, increasing the risk of localised flooding and structural damage.
SAWS has also warned of extremely high fire danger conditions in the north-central and eastern Northern Cape, south-western North West, and western Free State.
These areas are at heightened risk of wildfires due to dry and windy conditions, and residents are advised to exercise caution with open flames or any activities that could spark fires.
Communities in the affected regions are encouraged to stay informed through official updates and to adhere to advice from local authorities to ensure their safety during these adverse weather conditions.
