The Anti-Narcotics Bureau (ANB) said on Sunday that the Seychelles Coast Guard had arrested eight foreigners suspected to be Iranian nationals and seized their vessel.
Officials from the Seychelles Coast Guard’s Patrol Ship Etoile and the police boarded the vessel on Friday.
During the preliminary search, six packets of suspected cannabis resin, a small packet of suspected heroin and $160,000 were seized.
In a statement, the Anti-Narcotics Bureau said it is investigating the case.
Bureau officials said the arrest of the foreigners was made through a collaboration between the National Information Sharing and Coordination Centre, the Seychelles Coast Guard, and the Seychelles Police Force.
The French Embassy in Seychelles, a country in the western Indian Ocean, announced this week that a french frigate seized 378 kg of pure heroin while on patrol in the Indian Ocean.
The Embassy congratulated its sailors and said that together with Seychelles it was fighting drug trafficking and organised crime.
