The Edo State Chief Judge, Daniel Okungbowa, officially administered the oath of office to Marvellous Godwins Omobayo as the new Deputy Governor of the state, succeeding Philip Shaibu who was impeached earlier on Monday.
In his remarks after taking the oath of office, Marvellous Omobayo emphasised that the oath symbolises his commitment to adhere to the legal boundaries of his role as Deputy Governor.
He expressed deep appreciation to Governor Godwin Obaseki and the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for their support and trust.
Omobayo also acknowledged the challenges faced in recent times, commending Governor Obaseki for his resilience to successfully complete his second term in office.
His words:
“The oath of office l have just taken is my legal acceptance speech. It defines the legal limits that l can or cannot exceed while in office.
“Beyond this legal ceremony, it is imperative that l publicly express my profound gratitude to our respected Executive Governor, His Excellency, Governor Godwin Obaseki, and the leadership of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party.
“After all the very painful and thought-provoking distractions of the past few months, our governor is determined to finish his second term very strong,” he said.
News Central reported earlier that the Edo State House of Assembly impeached Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu based on allegations of misconduct, including the unauthorised disclosure of state secrets.
Omobayo, with a background as a seasoned Engineer in the oil and gas sector, particularly in the South South region, brings extensive experience to his new role as Deputy Governor, the state government said in his profile.
