Shakira took center stage during the Argentina vs. Colombia championship game at Copa America 2024 on Sunday, July 14. Making her debut at this historic tournament, she wowed the crowd at Hard Rock Stadium with a medley of her greatest hits, blending old favorites with new tunes.
The Colombian star kicked off the show in a metallic silver skirt and halter top, starting with her iconic hit “Hips Don’t Lie.” Amidst the performance, she passionately exclaimed, “Te Quiero, Colombia!” (I love you, Colombia), captivating fans with her love for her home country.
Accompanied by dancers—both human and robotic—she performed “Te Felicito,” “TQG,” and “Puntería,” showcasing her impressive dance moves. The soccer field was transformed with 3D wolves and floating gems, symbolising Shakira’s new artistic era.
While Shakira has graced many major sports events like the World Cup, Super Bowl, and NBA All-Star games, this was her first appearance at Copa America, the oldest international soccer tournament. This year also marked the first Copa America halftime show, modeled after the Super Bowl’s extended performances, thanks to the tournament being held in the U.S.
“Shakira is an extraordinary South American star who has dazzled the entire world,” said Alejandro Domínguez, president of CONMEBOL. “Her songs are sung and danced to in every corner of the planet, making her art a global phenomenon enjoyed by millions. We are confident her performance at Copa América USA 2024 will amplify the message of unity and passion through sport.”
Before Shakira’s performance, Karol G sang Colombia’s national anthem, and Abel Pintos performed Argentina’s. Feid and Maluma were also among the music stars present at the match.
In the United States, Copa América 2024 is broadcast in Spanish on Univision, TUND, and UniMás, and available on FuboTV, DirecTV Stream, and TUND’s streaming platforms. The halftime show can also be watched on FOX, Fubo Sports, the Fox Sports App, FOXsports.com, TyC Sports Internacional, and FOX Sports 1.
