Pop star Shakira has been hospitalised in Peru due to a stomach issue, leading to the cancellation of her scheduled Sunday performance in the Andean country, she announced on social media.
“I’m sorry to let you all know that last night I had to go to the emergency room for an abdominal issue and I’m currently hospitalised,” Shakira wrote in her post. “The doctors taking care of me have let me know that I’m not well enough to perform tonight.”
The Colombian singer arrived in Lima on Saturday, marking her first performance stop there in over a decade. Videos on her account captured hundreds of fans welcoming her at the airport.
“I hope to be better by tomorrow and that they release me from the hospital as soon as possible to be able to put on the show that I’ve prepared for you all,” Shakira said in her post.

Shakira, widely known in the Spanish-speaking world for hits like “La Tortura” with Spanish artist Alejandro Sanz and her 2023 diss track aimed at ex-partner Gerard Piqué, produced by Argentine DJ Bizarrap, is regarded as a trailblazer for Latin artists breaking into the English-speaking market.
Her most famous song to date is “Hips Don’t Lie,” featuring Wyclef Jean, which showcases Shakira’s signature gyrating dance moves.
The singer’s next performance in Lima is scheduled for Monday. She began her tour last week in Brazil.
