Former Nigerian lawmaker and civil rights activist, Shehu Sani, has slammed the Katsina State Government officials for allegedly diverting bags of rice that were meant for the poor people in the state.
Sani expressed frustration over the recent reports that the Katsina State Command of the Department of State Services (DSS) recovered 2,000 bags of rice out of 20 trucks that were donated to the state by the federal government.
Sani warned the government officials that they should not complain if the people start protesting as a result of their actions.
His post on X reads:
“Katsina Government officials, why did you divert bags of Rice meant for the poor? If the people now protest you will say they are causing trouble.”
News Central reports that President Bola Tinubu donated 20 trucks of rice to each of Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), according to Information Minister Mohammed Idris.
The donation, which was made in an effort to alleviate the food shortages experienced in many parts of Nigeria, aimed to provide relief to the most vulnerable sections of the population.
“Each of the trucks of course is carrying about 1,200 25kg bags of rice,” Mr Idris said. “This is part of the measures that the government is taking in addition to so many others to ensure that the hardship being experienced by Nigerians is drastically ameliorated,” Idris said.
