On Friday, the Vice President of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, travelled to Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, to meet with the relatives of soldiers killed in a terrorist attack in Damboa.
Shettima’s visit to the northeastern state is intended to honour the soldiers’ ultimate sacrifice and to convey President Bola Tinubu’s and the Nigerian government’s condolences to their families.
Shettima also paid a visit to Professor Babagana Zulum, the Governor of Borno State, as reported by a statement issued by his media assistant Stanley Nkwocha.
“The soldiers who lost their lives in the Damboa, Borno State, attack made the ultimate sacrifice while successfully fending off an attack that neutralised 34 terrorists at a Forward Operating Base in Sabon Gari.
“Following the tragedy, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had demanded a comprehensive inquiry to determine the causes of the unlucky catastrophe and make sure it would serve as a useful lesson to avoid future occurrences of the same kind,” the statement read.
The Vice President was welcomed at Maiduguri International Airport by the Governor of Borno State, the Deputy Governor, Umar Kadafur; Uba Maigari Ahmadu, the Minister of State for Regional Development; Dr. Salma Anas-Kolo, the Special adviser to the President on Health; and Hon. Ali Bukar Dalori, the Deputy National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) North.
AjiKolo Ali Gujja, the Minister of Transportation, Sen. Saidu Alkali, a well-known politician, Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan (Borno Central), Hon. Abdulkadir Rahis (Maiduguri Metropolitan Federal Constituency), and Hon. Usman Zannah (Kaga/Magumeri/Gubio Federal Constituency) are among the federal lawmakers from the state who are on the vice president’s delegation.
