Shettima at Davos: We Are Not Here to Beg

Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima is attending the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Shettima joined other political and business leaders from many countries in the world for the week-long meeting.
At the panel session on Tuesday, Shettima said Nigeria and indeed, Africa are not at Davos to beg but to use the WEF platform to seek mutually beneficial partnerships. ‘We as Africans must reach out to the world.


We can become global players in the world’s economy
He called on African nations to develop their human resources. According to him, It is the most important resource of a country.
He also said that African nations must take advantage of the digital revolution and do more with outsourcing. He said India will earn over a hundred billion dollars from outsourcing this year. This is far more than Nigeria earns annually from Crude Oil
The Vice President stressed that Africa’s most populous country was strengthening its efforts in the area of Agriculture. He said Agriculture holds the key to Africa’s economic transformation.
The Forum engages the foremost political, business, cultural and other leaders to shape global, regional, and industry agendas.
Before he left for Davos, his media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, in a statement issued in Abuja said the vice president will co-chair the launch of the Private Sector Action Plan for the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCTA).
Mr Shettima will return to Nigeria at the end of the meeting which is from 15 to 19 January.
