Sho Madjozi mourns late sister

Award-winning South Africa artist Sho Madjozi has broken her silence following her sister’s death.

Sho’s sister, Makhanani “Nyeleti” Manganye, died in a car accident on 17 December in Bungeni village, Limpopo.

Following the tragic news, Sho took a break from social media and cancelled her performance obligations.

Marking her return to social media, the 27-year-old dedicated a series of tweets to her sister, whose name means “star,” saying that she not only wants to share her successes with fans – but the hurt too.

In the tweets, she said that Nyeleti lived with her in Johannesburg and had just completed a makeup course.

She added that when her sister was born, her mother asked her what she should be named, saying: “I said Nyeleti which means star.”

The star said that when she heard the news, she wanted to stop “doing everything,” because much of what she did was to give her sister a “better life.”

After the funeral, which took place on 22 December, Sho’s manager showed her photos of the hundreds of young girls who are getting colourful braids, to emulate their role model – Sho.

“Later, I sat and went through all of the pictures by myself. Each one was like a star appearing on an impossibly dark night,” she said.

She singled out one post, in particular, writing: “One girl posted herself with Sho Madjozi braids and her captions were ‘you’ve gained a little sister’. I ugly cried.”

She ended off her post by saying: “But I’m grateful for the love you guys showed me without even knowing how much I needed it.”
