Cup holders, Nigeria will face Ghana in the remodeled qualifiers for the African Women Cup of Nations tournament.
In a deviation from the regular qualifiers where rankings and previous placements are used, qualifiers for the 2022 AWCON will be held by regions with Nigeria, neighbours and eternal rivals, Ghana emerging opponents in the West African zone.
Nigeria was drawn alongside Ghana in the WAFU B zone while Burkina Faso will face Benin. Ivory Coast will go head to head against Niger Republic to book a place in the second round of the qualifiers where twenty-two teams vie for eleven tickets.
The new system will see twelve teams play at the AWCON, different from the usual eight-team tournament.
There are 44 teams paired against each other and twenty two of them will progress to the next round before a final 11 will join hosts Morocco.
Winner of the 2022 AWCON will represent Africa, alongside other semifinalists at the World Cup in 2023 to be held in Australia and New Zealand.
