According to the Sierra Leonean constitution, President Julius Maada Bio is eligible to run again for a second and final five-year term in next year’s presidential election.
The president’s administration announced the dates for legislative and local council elections four days prior to Monday’s announcement. Additionally, voter registration will take place from September 3 to October 4, 2022.
According to the country’s electoral body, voting for a new president will take place on June 24, 2023.
The declaration was delivered on Monday by the Sierra Leonean electoral commission (ECSL), putting an end to months of rumors that the election would be delayed.
