Simba lose to Sevilla in nine-goal thriller

Tanzania Premier League champions, Simba Sports Club threw away a two-goal lead to eventually lose 5-4 to La Liga side, Sevilla in a nine-goal thriller during a LaLiga World Tour fixture played on Thursday night.

In front of a raucous 35,000 crowd at the National Stadium in the Dar es Salaam, Simba raced out of the blocks, missing several clear cut chances but eventually rocking the five-time UEFA Europa League champions with goals from Meddie Kagere and Man of The Match John Bocco.

Sergio Escudero pulled one back for the visitors but Bocco, who is set to star for Tanzania’s Taiga Stars at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations next month restored his side’s two-goal cushion before the break.

Teenage striker Bryan Gil scored for the Spaniards just three minutes after coming on at the break only for Zambian Cleotus ‘Triple C’ Chama to score the fourth for the Tanzanian giants.

But the visitors who finished sixth in the Spanish La Liga had the last laugh. Dutch international winger Quincy Promes scoring a quick brace in the 85th and 89th minute before Nolito slotted home from the edge of the box in the 95th minute to end a thrilling night in Dar es Salaam.

It was Sevilla’s coach, Joaquin Caparros’ final game in charge of the team. The 63-year-old confirmed a chronic leukaemia diagnosis in April and will be moving into a backroom role to assist sporting director, Monchi.
