The Chief Commander of the Libyan Army has ordered the Sirte-Jufra Operations Room to reposition its forces immediately to make way for the reopening of the coastal road and facilitate the transportation medium of citizens.
The Presidential Council advised for an all-inclusive collaboration with security apparatuses, the 5+5 Joint Military Commission, its security arrangements committee as well as security units on the coastal road within their administrative borders so that the coastal road can be secured and reopened.
The Council stressed the need to prepare reports to be submitted to the Chief Commander of the Libyan Army – the three member Presidential Council in order to follow up on the issue and provide the needed support, reiterating the need to report any hindrances to the reopening of the coastal road.
Southern Libya had remained safe haven for mercenaries loyal to Khalifa Haftar. A few weeks ago, due to international pressure, Khalifa Haftar asked Sudanese and Chadian mercenaries to leave the cities of Sirte and Jufra and go south but they refused, citing unpaid remunerations.
In May, a member of the sub-committee of the Joint Libyan Military Committee 5+5, Mohammed Al-Turjuman, confirmed that the coastal road between Sirte and Misrata was ready for reopening.
