In the rescheduled senatorial election on March 11, Kelvin Chibuzor Chukwu, the younger brother of the late Oyibo Chukwu, has emerged as the Labour Party’s (LP) nominee for the Enugu East Senatorial Zone.
Only two days before the polls on February 25, Barr. Oyibo Chukwu was murdered and set ablaze along with his aide and other supporters on Amaechi-Agbani Road on February 22.
With 223 votes, Chukwu defeated Uchenna Ogbodo, Chinedu Nneji, and Sir. Chinyeaka Ohaa.
Chukwu received 223 votes, while his opponents received none, according to Chief Innocent Okeke, National Vice Chairman (South-East) of the Labour Party, who made the announcement on Sunday in Enugu in the presence of two Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) observers.
On March 11, Kelvin Chukwu will cast his vote alongside Chimaroke Nnamani, the former governor of Enugu State, who is one of several candidates who have been ejected by the PDP.
