Arne Slot has vowed that Liverpool’s Premier League triumph is just the beginning, insisting the club’s sky-high expectations will fuel their pursuit of further success next season.

Liverpool sealed the title in emphatic style with a 5-1 thrashing of Tottenham at a jubilant Anfield, moving out of Arsenal’s reach with four games to spare. The Reds now sit level with Manchester United on 20 top-flight titles, having secured only their second Premier League crown since the competition’s inception.

Slot, who took over from Jurgen Klopp last June, has exceeded expectations by delivering the title in his debut season. Under his leadership, Liverpool have lost just twice in the league, while traditional rivals such as Manchester City, Chelsea, and Arsenal struggled for consistent form.

Thousands of fans gathered outside Anfield long after the final whistle, setting off fireworks and chanting in celebration. The triumph was made even sweeter by memories of their 2020 title win, which occurred behind closed doors during the pandemic.

Speaking after the match, Slot, the first Dutch manager to win the Premier League, stressed that planning for the next campaign was already underway. He made clear that Liverpool’s ambition remains unchanged.

“I don’t have to manage expectations because the expectations of this club are always the same,” Slot said. “We have to compete for every trophy. We have a group of players capable of winning things, but there are many great teams out there, and it will never be easy.”

Liverpool’s season ends on a high despite setbacks earlier in the campaign, including a League Cup final defeat to Newcastle and a Champions League exit against Paris Saint-Germain. Amid these challenges, concerns grew over the futures of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold. While Salah and Van Dijk have since renewed their contracts, Alexander-Arnold continues to be linked with a potential move to Real Madrid.

Slot admitted the Premier League was always the main focus, even after the Champions League disappointment. “Although we were very disappointed when we were knocked out by PSG, we always believed there was a bigger goal to achieve,” he said.

Looking ahead, Slot acknowledged that Manchester City’s relative struggles this season, alongside Arsenal’s inconsistency, had helped Liverpool’s title charge. However, he warned that next season would bring even fiercer competition.

Meanwhile, Liverpool supporters revelled in the celebrations outside Anfield. Fans like Alex Irlam described the experience as “incredible,” while others, including Sam Vickers, urged the club’s owners to invest in strengthening the squad.

Veteran supporter Frank McShane reflected on the celebrations, contrasting them with the muted scenes of 2020. He voiced hope that Alexander-Arnold would remain at the club and predicted another title for Liverpool next season.
