French Ligue 2 side Sochaux have confirmed the signing of Guinean international, Florentin Pogba on a free transfer.

Florentin who is the older brother of Manchester United mid-fielder Paul Pogba, has agreed a three-year contract with Sochaux and is expected to sign the dotted lines in the coming weeks.

The defender was born in the Guinean capital, Conakry but played for France at youth level in their U20 team in 2011 before switching his international allegiance to become Guinean international in March 2013.

He became a free agent after leaving Major League Soccer (MLS) side Atlanta United in January.

The Centre-back’s move to Sochaux marks his return to French football where he played for Saint-Etienne and left in January 2018 to play in the Turkish Super Lig for Genclerbirligi, and then moved to the MLS to play for Atlanta United.

His six-month spell with Genclerbirligi saw him make just eight appearances for the club, and later falling out with his teammates for walking off the pitch in a league match when his side were losing.

“I went off because I was injured and I couldn’t continue. I knew the three substitutions had been made. We were trailing, and I kicked the ball out to be able to go off and not waste time,” Florentin said.

“It’s true I should have told the coach beforehand, I must apologise for that. A teammate asked me what was wrong, people started shouting, but I quite simply couldn’t finish the match.”

The Guinea international went on trial with Spanish side Elche in January 2019 but the move did not materialize due to problems with his registration.

He then joined Atlanta United a month later, making 16 appearances for the club in the 2019 season with his side lifting the US Open Cup and the Campeones Cup.

Sochaux were placed 14th in Ligue 2 when the league season was halted in mid-March following the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

Florentin made his competitive international debut for the Syli Nationale in a 2014 World Cup qualifying game against Mozambique and has made 21 appearances for his national team so far.
