The deputy vice-chancellor of research, innovation, and development at Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS), Yusuf Saidu, was killed by suspected bandits on Monday, the institution’s authorities confirmed.

A statement from the university revealed that Saidu was attacked on his way from Sokoto to Kaduna. The university described his death as a great loss to the academic community.

The institution expressed its condolences and praised his integrity, dedication, and courage.

“The death has occurred of Prof. Yusuf Saidu, the current Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research, Innovation, and Development at Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto.

“He was attacked and killed by bandits on his way to Kaduna from Sokoto State. A man of integrity, religion, dedication, and courage.”

“May Allah accept his soul and forgive his sin, but this is a painful loss to all members of the university community and the academy at large,” the statement read.

Saidu was a respected professor of nutritional biochemistry. He graduated as the best student in biochemistry from UDUS in 1990, earned his master’s degree with distinction from the University of Jos in 1994, and obtained his PhD from UDUS in 2005.

News Central reports that the Northwest Governors Forum commenced its maiden edition of the Peace and Security Summit in Sokoto state on Monday.
