15 district heads in Sokoto have been dethroned. Their removal was announced by Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s press secretary, Abubakar Bawa who said the monarchs were involved in misappropriation of public assets, land racketeering, insecurity and insubordination.
They include the district heads of Unguwar Lalle, Yabo, Wamakko, Tulluwa, lllela, Dogon Daji, Kebbe, Alkammu, and Giyawa, as well as individuals appointed by former Governor Aminu Tambuwal towards the end of his tenure.
The official statement reads, “They were dropped due to the nature of their appointment, which, according to the statement, was haphazardly done and rejected by their subjects.
“They are Marafan Tangaza, Sarkin Gabas Kalambaina, Bunun Gongono, Sarkin Kudun Yar Tsakkuwa, Sarkin Tambuwal and Sarkin Yamman Torankavwa.”
It further revealed that investigations into cases involving District Heads of Isa, Kuchi, Kilgori, and Gagi have commenced.
Furthermore, a senior counsellor in the Sultanate Council, Sarkin Yakin Binji has relocated to Bunkari and the District Head of Sabon Birni has been reassigned to Gatawa.
Bawa also in another statement mentioned that seven other District Heads have been retained. They include; Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar III Churoman Sokoto, Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki Maccido Barayar Zaki, Abubakar Salame Sarkin Arewan Salame, Aminu Bello Sarkin Yamman Balle, Mahmoud Yabo Sarkin Gabas Dandin Mahe, Mukhtari Tukur Ambarura Sarkin Gabas Ambarura, Malam Isa Rarah Sarkin Gabas of Rarah District and The District Heads of Tsaki and Asare.
Also, the present Magajin Garin Sokoto, Abdukadir Mujeli has been instructed to forfeit his title and return to his former district role as Sarkin Rafin Gumbi.
These new decisions emanated from recommendations made by the Committee on the Review of Appointments of Traditional Rulers, Renaming of Tertiary Institutions, and the Dissolution of Governing Councils of State Parastatals established by the state government.
