Sokoto State Commits to Child-Focused Budget Initiatives

The Sokoto State Government has promised to keep up budgetary measures that support child-friendly governance in the state.

Deputy Governor Alhaji Idris Gobir made this pledge at a two-day strategic policy dialogue on social budgeting, organised by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), which included Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara States.

Gobir stated that Governor Ahmed Aliyu‘s administration prioritises the people’s welfare and held a town-hall meeting to ensure the 2024 budget meets their needs. Gobir stressed the administration’s commitment to transparency and proper use of public funds.

“The wellbeing of the people remains top on the priority list of the current administration, we are committed to transparency and accountability in handling public fund,” he said.

The Deputy Governor said the government will continue to support citizens through cash transfers, skills acquisition programmes, and women empowerment initiatives. Monthly allowances for physically challenged individuals have been increased.

Gobir praised UNICEF for its support and encouraged continued collaboration to improve state planning and budgeting.

Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Balarabe Kadadi, also thanked UNICEF for its financial and technical help, drawing attention to the state’s focus on health, education, and social protection for children.
