The Sokoto State Government has urged residents, especially those in border communities, to remain vigilant as fleeing bandits attempt to escape ongoing military operations in the eastern part of the state.
Ahmad Usman, the Special Adviser on Security Matters to Governor Ahmad Aliyu, issued the warning in a statement on Wednesday, stating that the intensified military campaign against the armed groups has left them scattered and desperate.
According to Usman, the military’s coordinated efforts have achieved notable success, dismantling several hideouts and rescuing hundreds of kidnapped victims.
The operations have also resulted in the neutralisation of many bandits, significantly disrupting their activities in the area. However, as the security forces continue to apply pressure, some of the bandits are trying to relocate, often seeking refuge in unsuspecting communities.
The government has cautioned residents to be wary of individuals who may pose as ordinary citizens or attempt to access treatment for injuries at local clinics. Communities are encouraged to report any unusual behaviour or movements to the authorities to ensure the safety of lives and property.
The statement emphasised that public cooperation is crucial in maintaining security and aligning with Governor Aliyu’s developmental agenda for the state. The government’s efforts aim to create a secure environment that fosters economic growth and stability for the people of Sokoto.
”Many terrorist enclaves were identified and destroyed, with several bandits neutralised, hundreds of kidnapped victims are also rescued in the ongoing operations.
”As security operatives put more pressure on the bandits, they are fleeing to other areas with their injured members.
”Therefore, we want our people to be cautious, as some bandits may disguise and seek refuge in villages or receive treatment at local clinics,” Usman said
Residents are reminded to stay alert and work closely with law enforcement agencies to prevent the bandits from regrouping or posing further threats in new areas.
