Soldiers Open Fire to Disperse Protesting Students in Ondo State, Southwest Nigeria

The Nigerian Army is allegedly shooting at students believed to be from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba, in Akure who are on the second day of protest against the lingering strike action of the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

The incident as reported by Punch Newspaper happened on Tuesday as the students converge to resume the second day of the protest along the major highways, including the Benin-Ore Express road.

Sources according to PunchNG confirmed that as of yesterday, the police and soldiers came to the protest scene, but today, they had come with violence as they started to disperse the students and disrupt other things.

“What happened in Lekki is happening again in Ondo!” One of the protesters had screamed in another video which showed that the instruments of the protests being used by the students had been scattered.

“They’re killing us,” another person said.

The protest is happening simultaneously across neighboring states of the southwest.

From the video circulating on special media, there hasn’t been any record of injury at the time of filing this report.
