Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has returned to coaching with Turkish Super Lig club Besiktas, the team announced on Saturday.
The 51-year-old Norwegian, who has been without a managerial role since his departure from United in November 2021, has signed a contract until the end of the 2025-2026 season, with the option for an additional year. He takes over from Dutch coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who was dismissed in late November.
Solskjaer, a Manchester United legend, made over 200 appearances as a striker for the club, famously scoring the winning goal in their 1999 Champions League final victory over Bayern Munich. Following his playing career, he transitioned into management, enjoying a successful stint at Molde before returning to Old Trafford in 2018.
After his United departure, Solskjaer worked as a technical observer for UEFA.
Besiktas, currently sixth in the Turkish league, is 21 points behind leaders Galatasaray and 12 points adrift of second-place Fenerbahce, managed by José Mourinho—whom Solskjaer replaced at Manchester United.
