Reports indicate that two Islamic State, IS, fighters were executed in Somalia by firing squad. Local media in Somalia reports that a military court found the two “guilty of assassinations” in the capital, Mogadishu, and Bosaso town in north-eastern Bari region. Adan Mohamed Ali Mohamud and Mohamed Ali Mohamed Farah were named as the two.
Numerous al-Shabab and Islamic State members, according to local media accounts, are still incarcerated and awaiting execution after receiving death sentences.
Insurgents from the Islamic State mostly operate in Puntland’s northeast, where they have previously claimed responsibility for attacks.
This comes days after at least 8 civilians were killed and over 5 wounded in an Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) attack that rocked Mogadishu, the Somali capital on Monday evening according to the Somalian media.
The IED blast occurred on a busy street in the El-Qalow area located in the Wadajir district. It took place during a traffic jam that a high toll of deaths, it further noted.
Earlier in the month of July 2022, at least 11 people succumbed to death after a suicide bomber blew himself up at the entrance to a government building in southern Somalia.
