A cash-in-transit van robbery attempt has left four security officers injured on the N4 in Gauteng on Wednesday.
Kyle van Reenen of Emer-G-Med said paramedics responded to the scene near Simon Vermooten Road and found “chaos”.
“Multiple security vehicles lay strewn across the roadway with the cash van having been blown up by suspects. The four security officers sustained moderate injuries and were treated and stabilised before being taken to a nearby hospital for further care.”
National police spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda said a cash delivery truck and its escort vehicle were driving along the N4 route when they were allegedly attacked by suspects who were travelling in multiple vehicles.
Van Reenen said there were no fatalities but police have commenced manhunt for the assailants.
In a video posted by anti-crime activist Yusuf Abramjee on social media. The driver of the car was forced into the emergency lane by the attackers, who travelled in a white BMW.
As the car abruptly stops, the BMW can be seen stopping a few metres ahead, in the middle of the highway. Three heavily armed men then exit the BMW and shout for the driver to open the door.
The man is heard screaming, seemingly in response to what sounds like gunshots being fired towards his car.
In the video, the vehicle stops and just seconds later, a white BMW pulls up in front. Several masked men emerge from the vehicle, wielding massive guns, approaching the victim’s car.
