The Pretoria Court on Monday, Sentenced a man named Lundokuhle Innocent Radebe to 15 years in jail for the 2021 murder of his girlfriend, Thandeka Tshabalala.
The 26-year old Radebe who is from Duduza, killed his 20-year-old girlfriend and covered it up as suicide.
He appeared in court on Monday where the court handed him 15 years imprisonment for murder, and 5 years for defeating the administration of justice. The sentences will run concurrently.
NPA Spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana expressed satisfaction with the court’s verdict, recounting the horrid incident back in 2021.
His words:
“Radebe strangled Thandeka. Thereafter, he called the police, and when they arrived, he told them the deceased had committed suicide, and that he found her neck tied with a cord.
“After the pathologist examined the body of the deceased, it was discovered that she had been strangled. Radebe was then arrested on 1 December 2021 at his place of residence,” the Spokesperson said.
Judge Carla Van Veenendaal who presided over the case, said gender-based violence (GBV) has become a “big pandemic in South Africa”.
She urged men to desist from perpetrating any form of violence against women and girls.
