South Africa has condemned US President Donald Trump’s decision to freeze aid to the country, following his claims that a South African law allows for land seizures from white farmers.
In a statement on Saturday, the South African government expressed concern over what it called a campaign of misinformation and propaganda misrepresenting the nation.
Trump’s executive order claimed the law would enable the government to confiscate agricultural property from ethnic minority Afrikaners without compensation.
The order also noted the foreign policy disagreements between the US and South Africa, including over the war in Gaza.

South Africa dismissed Trump’s allegations, stating that the executive order was based on inaccurate information and overlooked the country’s painful history of colonialism and apartheid.
The government also emphasised the ongoing issue of land ownership, with much of the country’s farmland still controlled by white South Africans, decades after the end of apartheid.
