South African authorities have begun a massive manhunt for some men who allegedly gangraped a girl in OR Tambo District.
Authorities in the country say 11 men were involved in the incident which happened on Friday, 4 September 2020.
The girl, 17, had walked her friends home and was en route to her own home when she was accosted by four men who allegedly grabbed her and dragged her to a nearby soccer field.
Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana said the “men took her to the field where they allegedly raped her. They left her and returned with more men who allegedly continued to rape the girl.”
After the committing the crime, the victim was left in the field for dead.
He said it was still unclear whether the attack was premeditated, adding that investigation will “unearth and unpack all the truths and motives behind this act.”
Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga said a task team has been set up to trace and track the perpetrators.
