South Africans have paid their respects to actor Jamie Bartlett, who died on Monday evening at the age of 55.
The circumstances surrounding Bartlett’s death were unknown at the time of filing this article.
He was born in England to a British mother and a South African father. Bartlett rose to prominence as a villain in the television series Rhythm City and Isindigo. He also served as a judge on the reality show SA Got Talent.
Jamie Bartlett was best known for his roles in television, including Mike O’Reilly (a negative character in Isidingo on SABC3) and David Genaro (a negative role in Rhythm City on ETV).
Aside from playing negative roles and becoming the main villain in the television series, he also served as a judge on South Africa’s Got Talent, which premiered on ETV. In 2013, he starred in the film Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom alongside Idris Elba.
More recently, he played the role of Piet in the eVOD original production Piet’s Sake. eVOD is eMedia’s streaming platform.
In a career spanning more than three decades, the star was one of South Africa’s most beloved actors, having won three prestigious SA Film and Television Awards.
He was married to and divorced from Camilla Waldman, a former Generations actress. They had a child together.
