South Africa has been rocked by protests in the past 12 hours, with the Economic Freedom Fighters opposition party potentially inciting riots. South African law enforcement officials have been quick to act, arresting 57 protesters for public violence-related offenses, and confiscating at least 24,300 tires, suspected to be used for burning barricades on roads.
The arrests were made through the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure, with 41 arrests in Gauteng province, 29 in North West province, and 15 in the Free State province. The SAPS is on high alert, working to prevent and combat criminal acts while maintaining public order and protecting South African inhabitants and their property.
The tension between the ruling party and opposition party has been escalating, with the EFF calling for President Cyril Ramaphosa’s resignation and power crisis solution implementation. The situation remains volatile, and the SAPS is working tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of all South Africans. According to an SAPS statement on Monday, the police have confiscated at least 24,300 tires suspected to be used for burning barricades on roads. 6,000 were seized in Western Cape province, 4,500 in Free State province, 3,600 in Gauteng, and 1,513 in Eastern Cape province.
