Veteran actress, Shaleen Surtie-Richards, known for her decades of work in the performing arts, has died at the age of 66, reportedly at a guest house in Cape Town.
A representative from Elysian Management confirmed the news but said further details would be released after meeting with Surtie-Richard’s family. The representative added that they were in a state of shock and were still processing the news.
Surtie-Richards, a qualified nursery school teacher who taught children before making her debut as an actress, is best known for her role as Ester “Nenna” Willemse in the long-running hit M-Net series Egoli: Place of Gold. She also starred in hit films such as Fiela Se Kind, Mama Jack, Treurgrond, Vaselinetjie, and more recently in the kykNet series Arendsvlei, where she featured in the city shooting scenes.
During her lifetime, she won more than 40 awards for her stellar work in the entertainment industry.
