South Africa Seizes Drugs Worth R4 Million

South African authorities have seized some banned substances worth R4 million in the Western Cape area of the country.

Three people, who were transporting the illegal drugs, which included 35 000 Mandrax tablets and 4.3kg of tik, were also arrested.

According to an official statement, authorities received a tip-off that a shipment of drugs was due to be delivered in the Elsies River area of Cape Town and set up a checkpoint in the vicinity.

Upon searching a Toyota Etios occupied by three men aged between 32 and 41, the officers discovered the drugs and the occupants were arrested.

The are due to make their first court appearance on Monday.

In a separate incident in Kleinvlei, also in Cape Town, members of the same unit arrested a 34-year-old man for being in possession of 30 Mandrax tablets after they reacted to a tipoff.

More Western Cape drug seizures were made in Kraaifontein, a suburb close to Durbanville when officers from the Provincial Integrated Team raided two addresses and confiscated quantities of tik and Mandrax tablets.

Two people were arrested and illegal firearm was seized.

A quantity of cash, believed to be the proceeds of crime, was also taken as evidence.
