Paramedics have responded to the scene of a multiple bus crash on the N2 highway near Gingindlovu on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast on Sunday.
First responders at the scene told News Central that the buses were packed with IFP supporters heading to the party’s manifesto launch at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Several people were injured and at least one in critical condition, after three buses collided on the N2 near Gingindlovu, north of Durban.
People in party outfit can be seen lying near the road, several pictures showed wrecked coaches on the roadside.
IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson, Samantha Meyrick said:
“Three buses collided, leaving many of the passengers injured and others trapped in the wreckage. Firefighters worked to extricate the trapped while paramedics started the treatment.”
Meyrick added that eight people were badly wounded, among them one person who was in a critical condition.
KwaZulu-Natal police said they were still gathering more information on the circumstances surrounding the accident.
