A blistering anchor leg sprint by Akani Simbine helped the South African relay team to a gold medal at the World Relays in Silesia.
The South African quartet were jubilant as they raced to the Olympics.
Once Clarence Munyai handed the baton to South Africa national 100m champion, Simbine, he went into his strides and hit a speed that was enough for them to finish on the podium as winners in Poland.
The South Africans finished their race in 38.71s, one-hundredth of a second quicker than Brazil, who were credited with second place in 38.72.
Official results that followed however showed that Brazil was disqualified with Italy handed a silver medal in 39.21s while Japan came third at 39.42s.
The South Africans will be up against the United States, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and other renowned relay and athletics powerhouses at the Olympic.
