The trial of a policewoman who was accused of raping her son has been rescheduled for Monday next week due to technical issues.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) confirmed the delay and noted that the trial was originally scheduled for Thursday and Friday.
However, the CRT machines used to record the trial were offline, leading to the postponement.
In a clip of the incident, the Limpopo woman was lying naked on a bed. The visuals then show an unclad young boy (about years old) holding the woman’s thighs. The translation suggests that the woman informed the boy to get on top of her and continued to encourage the boy, despite him telling her that he does not know how to do it.
Lizzy Suping, Ipid’s spokesperson, stated that the trial will take place on Monday after the technical issues have been resolved. Previously, the case was postponed to verify the defendant’s address in case bail was granted.
“It was postponed again today for Monday because of technical challenges. Everything will happen on Monday,” said Ipid spokesperson Lizzy Suping.
This verification process is now complete and will be presented to the court on Monday. Ipid will oppose bail.
The defendant faces charges of raping a minor, sexual grooming, and creating and distributing pornography. The alleged incident occurred in 2020. The child involved in the case has been placed in a safe location where he can receive psychological treatment.
For the child’s protection, the defendant’s identity cannot be disclosed.
