Police in South Africa have killed four suspected robbers in a shootout at a shopping mall in Harding, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).

A multidisciplinary team consisting of the Hawks and the anti-gang unit, among others, received information about a planned robbery at a mall in Harding before intercepting them, according to police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda.

On Monday, a man got robbed of his money after stepping out of a bank in the mall. The robbers started shooting on sighting the police officers. They were all killed, with the police officers unhurt.

In a related incident, police in Eastern Cape launched an investigation into a double murder and an inquest after three bodies were found in Bluewater Bay on Sunday.

“It is alleged that at about 4:20 pm, neighbours heard several gunshots from a house in Brian Crescent and contacted police. The deceased persons sustained gunshot wounds,” said Colonel Priscilla Naidu.

Police found a 9mm firearm next to a man identified as 46-year-old Mbulelo Nkqayana. His wife, 37-year-old Yolisa Nkqayana and their daughter 11-year-old Kazimla Nkqayana were found next to him. The police is yet to establish the motivation for the murder.
