South African Police in Cape Town have seized a massive stash of illegal weapons, explosives, and drugs during raids on storage facilities in Bellville South and Stikland.
The high-stakes operation, carried out on Monday by anti-gang unit investigators and crime intelligence officers, followed weeks of surveillance on the suspects, police spokesperson Brig Novela Potelwa confirmed.

At the first location in Bellville South, officers uncovered a deadly arsenal, including three AK-47 rifles, an R5 rifle, an assault rifle, 12 pistols, three Uzi submachine guns, four shotguns, two revolvers, six M26 fragmentation grenades, and a large stockpile of ammunition. The team also confiscated 50,000 Mandrax tablets.
The operation then led officers to a second site in Stikland, where they seized a package containing 2kg of heroin.

Two suspects—a 41-year-old woman and a 47-year-old man—were arrested and are set to appear in court soon on multiple charges, including illegal possession of firearms, ammunition, drugs, and explosives.
“As the investigation continues, the possibility of further arrests cannot be ruled out,” Potelwa said.
