A Gauteng woman, Gosiame Thamara Sithole, who gave birth to 10 babies last night at a hospital in Pretoria, has broken the Guinness World Record for the most children birthed by one woman at once; previously held by Malian woman, Halima Cissé who gave birth to 9 children in Morocco last month.
According to her husband, Teboho Tsotetsi, 37-year-old Sithole who hails from Tembisa Township in Ekurhuleni, gave birth to her set of decuplet, (7 boys and 3 girls) by Caesarean section, adding 2 to the number of babies that doctors had earlier detected during the medical scans.
He also added that she gave birth to their bundles of joy 29 weeks into her pregnancy.
“It’s seven boys and three girls. She was seven months and seven days pregnant. I am happy. I am emotional. I can’t talk much. Tsotetsi said.
Sithole, who already has six-year-old twins, stated that her pregnancy was natural as she was not on fertility treatment.
