Melitta Sekole, a 43-year-old Limpopo woman died after being attacked by two pit bulls in South Africa’s Limpopo province.
Sekole was said to be walking to Vivo from a residential area in the Mara policing precinct on Friday when she was attacked by the dog at about 5am, ripping her clothes and biting her.
Police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba said “She was rescued by community members and taken to hospital in a critical condition.”
Sekole was later moved to the provincial hospital in Polokwane where she succumbed to the injuries on Friday.
Ledwaba said the dogs’ owner, Nchabeleng Charles Masebe, 67, was arrested and will be charged with a case of culpable homicide.
Masebe appeared in the Senwabarwana magistrate’s court and was remanded until Thursday.
There has been a spate of deadly pit bull attacks on children and adults in South Africa. The country has also registered a rise in revenge attacks on Pit bulls while many, including MPs, have called for their ban.
