    Former Deputy President of South Africa, David Mabuza, has died at the age of 64 after a prolonged illness.

    Mabuza served as the country’s deputy president from 2018 to 2021, during President Cyril Ramaphosa’s first term in office.

    He rose to national prominence in 2017 when he played a pivotal role in swaying the African National Congress (ANC) leadership race in Ramaphosa’s favour, helping him defeat Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.
