After ending their deal in September with Japanese-based telecoms, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation. Africa’s top-flight professional cycling outfit have found a new headline sponsor.
ASSOS, the performance cycling clothing brand based in Switzerland will partner the team going forward, with the name Team Qhubeka ASSOS as the new official name of the team.
Doug Ryder, the team founder said: “I am really happy to have gained the support of some incredible people and partners including ASSOS of Switzerland who have stepped in to be a headline sponsor.”
“To be able to recreate the team as Team Qhubeka ASSOS talks to exactly what we continue to strive for, and that is to be a purpose-led, high-performance racing team.”
“I look forward to welcoming new partners to Team Qhubeka ASSOS as we plan and prepare for a new season in 2021 in a world that has been so heavily impacted by the pandemic.” Ryder continued.
The team which was created in 2007, have had several sponsors over the years, but continues to be a key promoter in the development of cycling talent on the continent.
And in 2015 they made history, becoming the first African-registered to compete in the Tour de France.
