The President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, has congratulated singer and songwriter Tyla Laura Seethal, popularly known as Tyla, following her historic win at the Grammys on Sunday, February 4.

Ramaphosa applauded the 22-year-old singer for winning the Best African Music Performance for her hit song Water.

He issued the congratulatory message to Tyla via a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) platform on Monday, stating that the South African singer has added her name to the list of other renowned music artists in the country, who have left a mark on the global stage.

“She is the youngest African to win such a prestigious award, adding herself to list of eminent South African artists and musicians who have made an indelible mark on the world stage,” the tweet partly read.

@Tyllaaaaaaa we congratulate you and we celebrate with you. Your win affirms South Africa’s sustained success in various international fora. Thank you for your authenticity and for flying the flag.” President Ramaphosa said.

The win by Tyla makes her the first and youngest artiste to be awarded in the newly created Grammy category.

The singer displaced fellow nominees and big Nigerian music stars Burna Boy, Davido, Asake, and Ayra Starr to clinch the award.
