Governors from the South-West region have taken steps to prevent any further unrest under the guise of agitation after Yoruba Nation agitators invaded Oyo State Government House last weekend.

The invasion was fuelled by a declaration made by the wife of late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Abiola, Ms. Modupe Abiola Onitiri.

In a viral video, Ms. Onitiri announced herself as President of a new Sovereign State called Yoruba Nation. However, prominent Yoruba nation agitators, such as Chief Sunday Adeyemo (Sunday Igboho) and Chief Banji Akintoye, disowned her and called for her arrest.
Close aides of Abiola revealed that Ms. Onitiri was not one of his officially recognised wives.

The South-West states have warned against any agitation or attempted overthrow of democratically elected governors.

Prince Dotun Oyelade, the state Commissioner for Information in Oyo State addressed journalists on Monday regarding this matter. The attempt to take over the secretariat was labelled a treasonable felony.

Reacting to the news of the invasion, the Ondo State government pledged to take action against any form of unrest in the state under the guise of agitating for the Yoruba nation.

“We will arrest them here in Ondo. We will not support anybody that is against the federal government,” The Special Adviser to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Information, Olugbenga Omole said.

In Ogun state, the police labelled the suspected secessionists as armed robbers, affirming that they would be treated accordingly. Omolola Odutola, the police spokesman, stated on Monday, “They are armed robbers; even the leader of the so-called Yoruba Nation has disowned them.”

Meanwhile, in Ekiti, security has been reinforced around the Government House in the Okesa area of Ado-Ekiti by operatives of the Nigeria Police. The Rapid Response Squad (RRS) has stationed personnel at key points leading to the governor’s office. This measure aims to prevent any potential invasion by Yoruba Nation Agitators, similar to the incidents witnessed in Oyo State, Nigeria.
