Spanish Celebrities Urge Government to Halt Arms Trade with Israel

A group of Spanish celebrities has released a video calling on the national government to immediately cease the arms trade with Israel. The video, featuring statements from well-known actors and musicians, emphasised the urgency of ending economic support for what they described as a “genocide.” The celebrities urged Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez to go beyond condemning attacks on Gaza.

According to the video, Spain has exported €28 million ($30 million) in weapons to Israel since 2005. The celebrities expressed concern about the potential use of Spanish weapons in the conflict and highlighted the significant business ties between Spain and Israeli defence companies.

The Spanish celebrities emphasised that the arms trade contributes to financing aggression in Gaza and legitimises violence against the Palestinian people. The video concluded with a collective call for an end to the weapons trade with Israel, stating, “Not in our name. Not with our money. We call for an end to the weapons trade with Israel. We will stop the genocide.”

This initiative follows the release of a manifesto calling for an end to the war in Gaza, which has garnered over 10,000 signatures, including those of other prominent figures in Spain. The manifesto advocates for an indefinite ceasefire and accuses Israel of committing war crimes in its attacks on Gaza.
