Sports and Fitness Vital for Healthy Living, NDE Boss Tells Nigerians

The Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Mr Silas Agara, has called on Nigerians to prioritise regular exercise and sports as a means to maintain good health.

Mr Agara, who was represented by the NDE Nasarawa State Coordinator, Mr Joshua Fagbami, made this appeal during a dinner and award night that marked the conclusion of sporting events organised by the Nasarawa State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in Lafia, the state capital.

He highlighted the critical role that exercise and sporting activities play in enhancing individual health, noting that medical professionals often recommend regular physical activity to aid recovery for those with health conditions.

Commending SWAN’s initiative, Mr Agara praised the association for organising such events aimed at helping journalists stay fit. As a member of the Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and Chairman of the Nigeria Nationwide League (NLO), he further pledged to collaborate with SWAN in promoting sports across the state, providing citizens with opportunities to hone their athletic talents.

One of the award recipients, Archbishop of Faith-Hill Prophetic Assembly, Prof. Emmanuel Jatau, echoed the importance of exercise for both young and old. He pointed out that physical activity not only helps burn calories but also supports the recovery process for those with health challenges.

Archbishop Jatau also noted that sports have the unique ability to unite Nigerians, helping them set aside their differences during such events.

In addition, Nasarawa State SWAN Chairman, Mr Smah George, explained that the competition provided a platform for journalists to participate in various sports, fostering fitness, camaraderie, and new friendships. He also shared that the 2024 SWAN Week featured seven different sports, lectures, and an award night, offering members an opportunity to enhance their skills and enjoy recreational activities.
