A South Korean court in Seongnam city has confirmed that Award-winning Squid Game actor Oh Yeong-su will stand trial on charges of indecent assault. This comes after a woman accused him of inappropriately touching her back in 2017.
78-year-old Yeong-su will begin trial in February, although specific dates haven’t been confirmed. According to the reports, the unidentified woman originally filed a complaint against the Emmy nominated actor in December 2021, accusing him of making unwanted physical contact during a meeting in 2017 but at this time Yeong-su has refused any press seeking comments.
Although a particular report said Yeong-su had only held the woman’s hands to “show her the way” as they walked around a lake. Yeong-su would later offer an apology to this said woman not acknowledging the accusation but rather to avoid any issues.
He became the first South Korean actor to win a Golden Globe in January as top supporting actor for his role in Netflix drama Squid Game. While this is certainly shocking news, it’s our hope that justice is served in whatever form it takes.
