Golden Globe-winning Korean actor, Oh Yeong-su, popularly known for his role in the hit series “Squid Game” has been indicted on charges based on sexual misconduct. He has also been released without detention.

According to South Korean Yohnap News Agency, the 78-year-old actor was indicted by South Korean prosecutors on Thursday, after a complaint from a woman, claiming he touched her inappropriately in 2017.

The complaint had been filed in December 2021 but was closed earlier this year in April without filing charges against Yeong-su. It was then reopened by the prosecutors’ office, at the request of the accuser.

Oh Yeong-su has denied the charges, saying in a statement to Korean broadcaster JTBC: “I just held her hand to guide the way around the lake. I apologised because (the person) said she wouldn’t make a fuss about it but it doesn’t mean that I admit the charges.”

Before “Squid Game”, which became a worldwide sensation and Netflix’s biggest original series, Oh was best-known for his role as the old monk in Kim Ki-duk’s “Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter…and Spring”. He started acting in 1967, and has spent the bulk of his career in live theater, counting over 200 stage productions.
