Over 2,000 Homes Destroyed as Flood Hits Zamfara

States affected by recent flood disasters across the country have received N3 billion from the Federal Government to help alleviate the suffering of their citizens.

This was announced on Wednesday during the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting at the State House in Abuja, chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima. The meeting was attended by governors, deputy governors, and several ministers. Notable figures such as Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Industries Limited, also made presentations.

Following the meeting, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State briefed State House correspondents, stating that northern states were among the worst hit by the floods, with significant loss of life and property. The N3 billion relief fund is intended to provide immediate aid in the form of food and temporary shelter for displaced victims.

Governor Mohammed added that NEC instructed the Federal Ministry of Agriculture to coordinate efforts for a comprehensive response to the flood disasters. Additionally, an inventory will be conducted to assess the extent of the damage caused by the floods.

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State also announced the reconstitution of the NEC Committee on Flood, with Vice President Shettima now serving as its chairman. Other members include Governor Usman Ododo (Kogi), Governor Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Governor Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Governor Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Governor Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), and Governor Douyi Diri (Bayelsa), along with representatives from the Ministry of Water Resources and other government agencies.
