Stray Buffalo Kills Woman In Kenya

Reports say a woman has died in Kenya following an attack by a stray buffaloo.

The incident occured on Saturday afternoon in West Pokot, an official of the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) said.

The woman was on her way to a clinic when she was attacked.

KWS officials were forced to kill the buffalo, which reportedly migrated from neighbouring Uganda to Chepasacha Village in West Pokot County where it destroyed maize plantations.

According to KWS Senior Warden Hamisi Amulavu, the woman identified as Chepokugho Ngolerongan was gored to death but her baby was found unscathed.

“The body has been moved to Kapenguria County Hospital mortuary and the baby taken to hospital for care and treatment.

Amulavu said the stray buffalo migrated to Suam, West Pokot due to cold weather in Uganda.

He advised locals to be on the look out for rogue wildlife animals and report them to the authorities.

One of the locals Moses Lotukon said the buffalo didn’t hurt the seven months old girl-child.

Local reports disclosed that a passer-by had found an unharmed seven-month-old girl in the bush next to a lifeless body of her mother.

The woman’s eyes were gouged out and the buffalo had broken her legs and hands.

Previously the buffalo had been spotted chasing kids who were herding cows. We are happy the KWS officers responded immediately and killed the buffalo. We can now sleep without worries,” a local told journalists.
