Sudan Accuses Chad of Supplying Arms to Rebel Militias, Files AU Complaint

Sudan’s military-backed government filed a formal complaint with the African Union (AU) on Tuesday, accusing Chad of supplying arms to rebel militias amidst the country’s ongoing civil conflict.

Justice Minister Muawiya Osman stated that evidence would be presented to AU authorities as the Sudanese government seeks compensation for the alleged harm inflicted on its citizens by these arms supplies.

The complaint follows accusations that Chad is bolstering the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), led by Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, which has been fighting the Sudanese army since April. While Sudan claims Chad has exacerbated the violence, Chad’s government has denied any involvement, asserting neutrality and advocating for peace in Sudan.

Meanwhile, as the humanitarian corridor through the Adre border crossing nears its November 15 expiry date, Sudan has yet to confirm whether it will allow the crossing to remain open.

The conflict has already displaced over 11 million people, with 3.1 million fleeing across borders, highlighting the urgent need for continued international assistance.
