With calm restored to the Ethiopian region of Tigray after a month-long conflict between state forces and rebels, the TPLF, Sudan who provided refuge for many Tigrayans has claimed its officers are being ambushed by Ethiopian forces.
The Sudan Armed Forces report an attack on officers on Wednesday by Ethiopian forces and militia during a security patrol of the border region.
Sudan, who share a border with Ethiopia in the north said some officers were killed in the process, with equipment lost on its own soil.
This is coming days after Sudanese Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok paid a brief visit to Tigray. He relayed concerns about the fate of Sudan’s security along border lines as a result of the Ethiopia-Tigray Conflict.
“During the return of our forces from combing the area around Jabal Abbattior inside our territory, they were ambushed by Ethiopian forces and militia inside Sudanese territory, as a result of which lives and equipment were lost,” the Sudan Army said.
Fighting erupted in Tigray on November 4th after TPLF forces attacked state properties in Ethiopia. The attack led to the death of thousands of people with close to 100,000 people displaced.
The Ethiopian government has announced that normalcy has been restored to the region but as fears of reprisals persist, citizens have refrained from returning home.
